Facebook Messenger is one of the most popular messaging apps on Android, and it’s also one of the most customizable. You can change a lot of settings in Messenger, including how notifications work, what types of messages you see, and even how your messages are organized. In this article, we’ll show you how to change Facebook Messenger settings on Android. To start, open the Facebook app on your phone and sign in. If you don’t have an account yet, you can create one at facebook.com/signin. Once you’re signed in, click on the three lines in the top left corner of the app screen (known as the navigation bar). From here, click on Settings. In Settings, scroll down until you see Messages and tap it. On the next screen (known as Messages Settings), you’ll see a lot of different options. We won’t go through all of them here (you can find more information about each option in our guide to changing Facebook Messenger settings), but we will show you how to change some important ones. First up is Notification Settings: In this section, you can choose which types of notifications Facebook sends you about new messages (such as when someone sends a message to your group or when someone replies to your message). You can also choose whether or not to receive notifications for messages that are sent from people who aren’t friends of yours (known as unsolicited messages or spam). To disable all notifications for a particular type of message (for example, when someone sends a message to your group), just turn off the switch next to that type of notification (for example, Group Notifications).
