If you own a tractor with a diesel fuel tank, it’s important to clean it regularly. This is especially important if the tractor uses diesel fuel to power its engine. To clean a diesel fuel tank on a tractor, follow these steps:
- Fill the tank with water and add enough detergent to cover the bottom of the tank. Swish the water around and let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Drain the water and rinse the tank with fresh water. Be sure to rinse off all of the detergent residue.
- Pour 1 gallon of gasoline into the tank and light it on fire using a match or lighter. The gas will heat up quickly and start to vaporize, which will help loosen any dirt or debris on the inside of the tank. Use a long-handled brush to scrub at the dirt until it comes loose. Be careful not to get any gasoline on your skin or clothes!
- Pour 1 gallon of gasoline into the tank again and light it on fire using a match or lighter, this time pouring it slowly so that it doesn’t splash around too much. The gas will heat up quickly and start to vaporize, which will help loosen any dirt or debris on top of the oil layer that coats the inside of the tank (this layer is called an “oil bath”). Use a long-handled brush to scrub at this layer until it comes loose. Be careful not to get any gasoline on your skin or clothes! ..
