If your ATV carburetor is clogged, it can cause poor performance and even engine damage. Here’s how to clean it:
- Remove the carburetor cover. On most models, this is a two-part assembly that includes a cover and a float bowl. If the bowl is dirty, you can clean it using a vacuum cleaner with the hose attachment or by pouring boiling water into the bowl and letting it cool before removing the water with a bucket.
- Remove the air filter if present. This may be held in place by screws or clips and should be easily accessible once the cover is removed. If not, simply unscrew it and remove it.
- Pour a small amount of carburetor cleaner into each air intake tube and let it run through the system several times. Be sure to get into all of the nooks and crannies. Carburetor cleaner will also work well to remove carbon deposits from an air filter if necessary.
- Replace any parts that have been cleaned, such as the air filter or cover, then reattach them in reverse order according to their installation instructions. Be sure to check for leaks before starting up your ATV! ..
