If your power steering reservoir is dirty, it can cause poor steering and even failure. Here’s how to clean it:
- Park the car in a safe place and turn off the engine.
- Remove the cap on the power steering reservoir.
- Pour a small amount of brake cleaner into the reservoir and swish it around to coat all of the inside surfaces.
- Pour a large amount of water into the reservoir and turn on the engine.
- Let the car run until it cools down, then remove the water hose from the reservoir and drain it completely.
- Repeat steps 3-5 until all of the brake cleaner has been removed from the reservoir. ..
