If your power steering reservoir is dirty, it can cause poor steering and even failure. Here’s how to clean it:

  1. Park the car in a safe place and turn off the engine.
  2. Remove the cap on the power steering reservoir.
  3. Pour a small amount of brake cleaner into the reservoir and swish it around to coat all of the inside surfaces.
  4. Pour a large amount of water into the reservoir and turn on the engine.
  5. Let the car run until it cools down, then remove the water hose from the reservoir and drain it completely.
  6. Repeat steps 3-5 until all of the brake cleaner has been removed from the reservoir. ..
