If you’re like most people, you probably don’t think much about your humidifier. You turn it on when it gets too dry in the house, and that’s about it. But if you want to keep your home comfortable all year round, you need to take care of your humidifier. Here are four tips for cleaning your Homedics Total Comfort Humidifier Plus:
- Clean the filter every month. The filter is where all the moisture goes, so it needs to be cleaned regularly to keep the humidifier working properly. To do this, remove the filter and wash it in warm water with a mild soap. Be sure to rinse it well and put it back in place before replacing the filter.
- Clean the tank every two months or when there is a noticeable change in humidity levels. To clean the tank, remove it from the humidifier and fill a sink with cool water. Add 1 cup of white vinegar to the water and stir until dissolved. Pour half of this solution into the tank and let it sit for 30 minutes before replacing the tank and turning on your humidifier again. Be sure to empty out any remaining vinegar solution each time you clean your humidifier as this can cause damage over time if left inside of a machine!
- Cleaning accessories like filters, tanks, and mist output can be done monthly or as needed depending on how often they are used. To clean an accessory, simply remove it from its housing and wash with warm water and a mild soap using these same steps as outlined for cleaning filters (above). Be sure to rinse well before putting back in place!
- If there is build-up on any part of your humidifier – including around mist output – use a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment to clear away debris buildup until cleanliness is achieved (again using these same steps as outlined for cleaning filters). ..
