When you want to create a layered image in the GIMP, you need to use the layers palette. The layers palette is a three-dimensional panel that allows you to add, remove, and change layers. To add a layer, click on the Add Layer button in the layers palette. You can also drag and drop a layer into the panel. When you add a new layer, GIMP creates an empty layer above the current one. If you want to delete an existing layer, select it and click on the Delete Layer button in the layers palette. To change or delete a layer, select it and click on the Edit button in the layers palette. You can also drag and drop a layer into the panel if it doesn’t exist yet. When you edit a layer, GIMP updates all its properties including its name and color.
