When you’re formatting a SD card for Android, it’s important to remember to partition it into FAT32 and FAT16. This will make it easier to access the data when you need to format the card again in the future. To partition your SD card for Android, follow these steps:
- Choose a partitioning option on your Android device. This can be either FAT32 or FAT16.
- Create a new FAT32 partition for your SD card. This will be the root of your SD card and will have all of the data on it.
- Create a new FAT16 partition for your SD card. This will be the primary storage area for your data on your device and will have all of the data on it in this directory alone.
- Format your SD card using these steps:
- Choose Format > Format Data > Fat32 (or Fat16). This will create two new partitions with different sizes, one for storage and one for data (you’ll still be able to access both parts of the disk).
- Select which part of your SD card you want to format (the one with the most data) and click OK. The formatting process should take about 10 minutes, during which time you’ll see a message telling you that everything is being backed up and that there may be some slight changes during formatting (this is normal). After formatting is complete, insert yourSDcard into an Android device and check its contents to see if everything has been changed!
