If you own a PlayStation 4, there are a few things you can do to help protect your console from being lost or stolen. One way is to restore your console’s license. This will allow you to play the games and applications that were installed on your console, as well as any other games or applications that may have been added since your last license renewal. To restore a PlayStation 4’s license, follow these steps:

  1. Open the PlayStation 4 system software. This is located in the “system” folder of your PS4 hard drive.
  2. Locate the “license” folder on your PS4 hard drive. This folder contains the files that identify and authorize your console’s use of Sony’s software products.
  3. Double-click on one of the files in the “license” folder to open it in a text editor or word processor.
  4. Edit the contents of the “license” file to reflect what you want to do with your new PlayStation 4 license: add new games, applications, or users; change account settings; or update any information that may be included in the file (such as account numbers).
  5. Save the file as a new file and close all programs on your PS4 before doing anything else with it (except for turning off your PS4).
  6. Place your new PlayStation 4 license file into an appropriate location on your computer (for example, C:\Program Files\Sony Interactive Entertainment America\PlayStation Network\LICENSE).
  7. Launch Sony Interactive Entertainment America’s PlayStation Network client application and sign in with an existing account if necessary (if you haven’t done so already). If you’ve already signed in with an account, click on one of three icons at the top of the screen to open my Account Settings: My Account | License Management | Restore License . If you haven’t done so yet, click on My Account | License Management | Restore Console . If everything goes according to plan

If not, you can find a copy on the PlayStation Network or at a retail store. Next, try contacting Sony directly.
