When you’re starting out in Illustrator, it can be helpful to have a general idea of how the program works. This article will teach you how to create outlines for your designs, and then use them to help organize your work. First, create a new document and name it “Outlines.” Next, select the Rectangle tool and click on the center of the outline. Then drag the rectangle outward until it covers the entire design. You can release the mouse button when you’re finished to release the shape. Next, select the Ellipse tool and click on one of the ends of your outline. Then drag it up until it reaches the top edge of your design. You can release the mouse button when you’re finished to release the shape. Now that your outline is created, you’ll need to use it to help organize your work. To do this, first select one end of your outline and drag it down so that it’s at an even level with all of your other shapes. Then press Command+I (or right-click on any shape and choose “Include In Outline”). This will add an outlined border around all of your shapes in your document.
