There are a few different ways to approach this question, as the Gimp interface can be quite different depending on what type of user you are. However, here are four main components that are common to all Gimp users:
- The tools palette: This is where you can access all of the basic tools that Gimp provides, such as a selection of filters and effects, as well as some more advanced features.
- The layers palette: This is where you can create and manage your own layers, or add other users’ layers into your project.
- The document palette: This is where you can save and open documents that have been created in other applications such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.
- The history palette: This is where you can see how many times a particular layer has been used in a project, and how many changes have been made to it since it was last saved/opened.
